Now Showing at The Barn Gallery. AFTER VIOLA , is a ceramics exhibition of new works by five Bay Area artists in conversation with the archives of Viola Frey, the renowned California artist known for her colorful, robust, larger-than-life sculptures.
- Ashwini Bhat
- Nicki Green
- Cathy Lu
- Nathan Lynch
- Kari Marboe
In collaboration with the Artists’ Legacy Foundation, this exhibition connects two distinctly different generations in an exciting dialogue about material, meaning, and form. All five artists are drawn to Frey’s multifaceted studio practice. Even though their individual practices are distinctly different they share an affinity for her process.
Curated by Julia Schwartz of the Artists’ Legacy Foundation, the exhibition will also include photographic representation of Frey’s work from the archives.
The Artists’ Legacy Foundation serves as a resource for scholars, curators, and the general public by deepening their understanding of the work of Legacy Artists including Frey.
The Barn Gallery is honored to partner with the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) to bring this exhibition to Yolo County.
The Barn Gallery is located at 512 Gibson Road in Woodland on the Gibson House property. The gallery is open Wednesday and Thursday afternoons 2:30-5 p.m. and two Saturday afternoons monthly 12:30-3pm.
