A Walk in the Park Opens at Gallery 625 in Woodland

Just in time for summer vacation, the group art exhibition, A Walk in the Park, presents a visual travelogue of parks visited and captured by artists throughout California and the United States. A Walk in the Park features photography, paintings, and mixed media in this show running June 1 through July 31 at YoloArts’ Gallery 625 in Woodland.

Artists whose work will be featured are: Chris Allan, Tim Allen, Matt Connors, Garrett Cotham, Brian Curley, Trina Drotar, Jane Ingram Allen, Jan Lightfoot, Susan Lord Bovey , Manny Melliza, Mircea Ouatu-Lascar, Maryann Owens, Don Peri, Sue Peri, Ann Privateer, Susan Raines, Doug Smith, Kent Smith, Mel Solomon, Larry Swanson, Sandy Thomas, and Terry Westover.

From coastal Oregon’s Siuslaw National Forest to Fire Island off the coast of New York, vistas of parks in summer, in the snow, morning and evening skies, flora, fauna, and site-specific mixed media work complete a show that inspires wanderlust and pays homage to the grandeur of the natural world experienced in a park setting. Artist statements will accompany each artwork conveying the park’s meaning to the artist. McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, Zion National Park, Yosemite, Carrizo Plains National Monument, and Muir Woods provide some of the backdrops and inspiration for the artwork in this exhibition.

A special addition to the exhibition includes photographs from the collection of the Yolo County Parks Division, a map of the parks in the county, and information on enhancing visitor experiences at these local natural wonders will be available.

A reception, hosted by YoloArts’ board member Todd Montgomery, will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 1, during the downtown Woodland First Friday Art Walk. Music will be provided by guitarist, Jon Spivack and a parks-inspired art activity for all ages will be part of the reception’s activities. Refreshments, including wine and beer provided by TBS (The Burger Saloon), will be available.

A Walk in the Park runs throughout June and July to allow for plenty of viewing time for summer vacation and artistic inspiration. As Downtown Woodland First Friday Art Walk will be on hiatus in July, due to the Independence Day holiday, Gallery 625 will be closed the evening of July 6.

Gallery 625 is located at 625 Court St. in Woodland, in Yolo County’s Erwin Meier administration building and is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and by appointment. For more information, contact YoloArts at 530-309-6464.
