Hundreds of Yolo County third graders annually engage in an extraordinary learning experience at the Gibson House and Property in Woodland. Students from schools in Woodland, Davis, Winters, Esparto and West Sacramento participate in a variety of hands on experiences that include butter making, games, laundry by hand, and touring the 1870’s built historic mansion. Art and agriculture activities are incorporated into the learning, for a truly unique field trip experience.
The field trip program relies on volunteer docents and is coordinated by YoloArts. Third grade teachers in Yolo County count on these interesting and engaging tours to make history come alive in a fun way for children. The program operates weekday mornings beginning in April.
YoloArts is recruiting volunteer docents for the third grade Historic Experience tour and the new K-12 Gibson House and Property tour. Interested volunteers are encouraged to contact education manager, Jenna Harris by email, jharris@yoloarts.org or phone 530-309-6464. A free training for docents is scheduled for February 25-27 and sign ups are being taken now.
