From the wheat fields of South Dakota to the ranch lands of Colorado, artists have provided iconic images of America’s rural landscape. Today, one rural community in northern California is providing a unique opportunity for artists to come out to the farm. Yolo County’s “Arts & Ag” program invites artists and photographers to farms and ranches just north of California’s capital of Sacramento.
Farmer Annie Main is one of the participants. She feels that the works created by those visiting artists give viewers insight into, not only life on the farm, but a greater understanding of those who work the land and provide our food. The program has been so successful that other areas of the country have asked Yolo County for assistance in setting up programs in their rural communities.
