CommUNITY through Art (CTA) is an arts engagement project, led by professional artists, aimed at increasing human connection through creative practices for those who are unhoused, in recovery, processing trauma, and/or struggling with their mental health. By providing quality art materials and instruction, participants are invited to engage in skill exploration in a supported environment while gaining self-confidence and creative problem-solving skills.

Making art brings people together as they learn something new, share personal experiences, and encourages forming bonds with other community members. It is also a great way to look inward and connect with yourself. Our goal is to provide a space for relaxation and exploration.

No prior arts experience is necessary, CTA will meet you where you are. The art mediums and projects explored each week are thought of by participants and teaching artists. The goal for each session is no pressure, arts exploration.

Our program partners are Mercy Coalition’s Recovery Cafe in West Sacramento and Woodland Health and Human Services Agency’s Wellness Center in Woodland. The program is administered by YoloArts and led by Teaching Artists Melissa Uroff, and Angelo Esquivel.
