Professional Development Workshops for Artists Coming Soon to Yolo County

Artists are invited to start the New Year with YoloArts and engage in a new series of arts marketing workshops. The first workshop will be held 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Saturday January 28, 2017 at Hyatt Place UC Davis, 173 Old Davis Road, in Davis.

This professional development series of workshops has been designed to meet the needs of new, mid-career, and legacy artists. Traditional and new ideas and methods for marketing art will be explored, including the need to be active in the ever-evolving on-line community. How to access a public art commission, audience acquisition, and attracting galleries and sales will be explored in the six part art marketing series. Artists are encouraged to register for all or some of the workshops.

All workshops will be facilitated by Michelle Alexander, consultant with Starboard Strategies of Sacramento. Alexander has extensive nonprofit and arts experience, including seven years as the executive director for the Sacramento Arts and Business Council.

The first workshop, on January 28, will cover the preparation of a marketing plan and will take artists through the development of a mission statement, how to research market trends, audience demographics and competitors; how to design strategies for messaging, developing promotional materials, creating a marketing budget, and putting together an action plan.

The fee for the five hour workshop on January 28 is $35 and will cover lunch and the cost of parking. More information and registration for the workshop is located here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/arts-marketing-workshop-how-to-prepare-a-marketing-plan-tickets-30144281357.

YoloArts is able to offer this professional development for artists series with support from a Creative California Culture grant from the California Arts Council. For more information contact YoloArts associate director, Janice Purnell, 530-309-6464.
