Paintings from our Journey opens at Gallery 625 December 1

A group exhibition featuring the work of seven Davis artists opens at Gallery 625 December 1. The group of artists have have been meeting twice a month since 2010 to give supportive and frank critique of each other’s recent paintings.

Going by the name “Different Strokes” these artists include: Linda Ayre, Anne Lincoln, Janice Long, Irene Osuga, Gai Perry, Dick Stern, and Ann Teal. The coterie first came together in a weekly critique class led by Betty Berteaux at the Davis Art Center. When the classes were discontinued, the group of artists felt the need for continued critique of their work, so they began meeting on their own, twice monthly in each other’s homes.

Paintings from our Journey includes oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media paintings. The artists are retired from other careers and include teachers, a scientist, a social worker – each renewing and re-discovering a previously held passion for painting.

In the Gallery 625 2nd Floor Gallery, over 100 works of art from Gibson Elementary School second and third grade students will be on display for a one-night exhibition. The ceramic masks and dinosaurs in the show were made earlier this school year in YoloArts’ Artists in Schools program taught by artist, Linda S. Fitz Gibbon.

A meet the artists reception from 5:30 – 8 p.m. will coincide with the downtown Woodland First Friday Art Walk on December 1. Hosted by YoloArts’ board member Susan Lord Bovey, the reception will feature Julie Dachtler on the piano playing holiday favorites, and tastes of wines from gallery sponsor, Matchbook. The show will run through January 30, 2018.

Gallery 625 is located at 625 Court Street in Woodland, in Yolo County’s Erwin Meier Administration building and is open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday, and by appointment. For more information contact YoloArts at 530-309-6464
