The Yolo Community Band, directed by Bobby Rogers, will present an evening of theme music from movie favorites on Saturday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pioneer High School Theater at 1400 Pioneer Ave in Woodland.
This family friendly event will feature a multi-media event of live music medleys accompanying movie clips from big-screen favorites including ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘La La Land’, ‘ET the Extraterrestrial’, ‘Schindler’s List’, ‘Star Wars’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’.
The Yolo Community Band was founded in 2005 by Music Director and Conductor Bobby Rogers. Rogers, a Woodland native, is the Head of the Music Department at Pioneer High School in Woodland. He also conducts the Santa Rosa Youth Symphony and is an adjunct professor for the jazz program at Solano Community College. The Yolo Community Band performs seven or eight concerts annually at various locations throughout Yolo County and YoloArts is the fiscal sponsor of the Yolo Community. The YoloArts office and Gallery 625 are located in Woodland.
Community bands provide a way for musicians and the local community to maintain a life-long interest in performance and appreciation of concert band music. The 60 member Yolo Community Band includes musicians who range in age from high school students to senior citizens and come from Arbuckle, Davis, Woodland, Dixon, Elk Grove, Zamora, Rumsey, Winters, Esparto, Yuba City, Sacramento, and the Bay Area. In June of 2017 The Yolo Community Band performed in New York City in the New York Sounds of Summer International Music Festival in Carnegie Hall. The band is planning a performance tour in Italy for summer 2020. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Pioneer High School band room.
