“Last year over 3,000 students across Yolo County engaged in the arts through a YoloArts education program taught by professional artists, several of whom are nationally and internationally acclaimed,” said Janice Purnell, Gallery 625 curator. “This exhibit is an opportunity for these artist to share their own artwork with the community along with their experiences as teaching artists.”
Students in schools across Yolo County learn skills in a variety of artistic mediums, and gain an understanding of the importance of creativity and art. YoloArts conducts programming in Davis, Esparto, West Sacramento, Winters, and Woodland schools; at the Yolo County juvenile hall, Cesar Chavez Community School, and special education programs administered by the Yolo County Office of Education.
The artists will be attending the opening reception, 5:30-8 p.m. Friday, April 5, coinciding with the downtown Woodland First Friday Art Walk, and hosted by YoloArts board member, Carol Rose. Jazz music will be performed by the Woodland High School jazz combo, Full House featuring Noah Garcis, Aaron Vogt, Miyah Olson, Isaac Gutierrez Rodriguez, and Kieran Di Dio . An art activity for all ages will be offered at the reception.
The Upstairs Gallery will be showing artwork created by Esparto Elementary students in the first grade class of Sara Robles. The art program was made possible by a Dorothy Peterson Arts Grant.
