Jesse Drew, UCD Professor of Cinema and Digital Media, filmmaker, media artist

Artists Chandon and Smothers conceived the idea of the show pre-pandemic.

“Working on this show came about as a result of a conversation we had during the early part of the summer of 2019 after which it grew and developed into this amazing group exhibition,” Chandon recently stated. “We are friends, colleagues, and mid-career artists who show work internationally and are active in the local and academic community.”

The exhibition is a conceptual show with unique interpretations of the theme.

This group of artists has come together to reflect on the simple act of “embarkation” or the willful movement of people from one place to another.

In the artists’ statement for the show they say:
“Whether it is promise or peril, for adventure or escape, people have embarked on journeys for millennia. In our moment of “sheltering in place” we want to remind ourselves of the hopes and dreams represented by pushing off and heading into the unknown. “ Ireland/Northern Ireland, Steel and copper, Chris Daubert Ireland/Northern Ireland, Steel and copper, Chris Daubert

“Each of the artists, in very individual ways, examines the meaning of art in a world that has turned upside-down,” stated Janice Purnell YoloArts creative director. “The show’s theme is grounded in the journey we are all undertaking these days and these exciting works of art provide both a map and a reflection of our shared voyage into the unknown”

An Augmented Reality Workshop with Glenda Drew and Jesse Drew, will be held on Thursday October 15 at 7 pm via Zoom and introduce popular tools for creating Augmented Reality (AR) with hands-on demonstrations of how to use Artivive.

Workshop registration is available at yoloarts.org.
