Come and experience the Yolo County Historical Collection’s newest exhibition at the Gibson House, located at 512 Gibson Road in Woodland. Admission is free. The exhibition, GIVE FACE 给面子, features historical objects and contemporary art that invite visitors to explore the stories of Chinese communities in Yolo County and Northern California.

Saturday, August 16 at 1:00pm: Chinese Restaurant Project Presentation with Jack Chin, Distinguished Professor of Law and Director of Clinical Legal Education, UC Davis
Saturday, November 15 at 1:00pm: Uncovering Chinese American Histories in Yolo County with Dr. Cecelia Tsu, Associate Professor of History, UC Davis.
Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 1:00pm: Curator’s Tour with Sarah Bartlett, Yolo County Museum Curator and Bz Zhang, Exhibition Artist.
GIVE FACE 给面子 is an interdisciplinary exhibition that unearths and re-centers past, present, and future narratives of Chinese diaspora in the Sacramento Valley, situating them within the sweeping, ever-evolving story of California. Historical objects trace the impact of Chinese Americans on Yolo County through the artifacts they left behind, while contemporary artworks woven throughout the exhibit illuminate their lived experiences, intimacies, and complexities. Blending documentation and speculation, artist Bz Zhang’s work creates dialog between Western ideas and Chinese-diasporic cultural inheritance, offering ways to “give face” to honor and show due respect to Chinese ancestors in the U.S. West. The stories of the Chinese diaspora in Yolo County with contributions that extend beyond physical infrastructures such as railways and agriculture into the very social and cultural fabric of our nation.
