Gallery 625’s upcoming exhibition is a solo show featuring Brown’s Sound Bars series, and other selected works. The exhibition opens with a reception from 5:30 - 8pm on Friday, November 7th with remarks at 6:00pm and live music provided by Jon Spivack.
The work on view at Gallery 625 includes two- and three-dimensional pieces using traditional mediums as well as every day and found objects. Whether drawing in space or painting on a surface, the work aims to embrace combinations of colors and textures, and to assemble spatial relationships that evoke our shared experiences.
Sound bars is a series of work that explores how color and form influence our experience of an environment. The bars are similar to the ‘frequency’ reading on old stereo systems. The amplification of sound through speakers is not dissimilar to the effects that color has on our experience of space. When you add music to your environment, it’s like adding a whole other dimension to the space. The same is true when you add color.
“Sifting through sensorial experiences, remembered and imagined, imagined and remembered, my work attempts to make tangible the intangible. The process is intuitive and informed by my environment, the materials at hand, and the intermingling of the two. By layering the loose energy of gestural strokes, the structural rhythms of lines, and the atmospheric qualities of color, I aim to distill sensations while opening new visual perspectives.” -Carlaina Brown
