YoloArts and Gallery 625 present: Impression // Path

Gallery 625’s upcoming exhibition Impression // Path is a solo show featuring work by Sacramento Artist, Ember de Boer. The exhibition opens with a reception from 5:30 – 8pm on Friday, February 6th with live music provided by Jon Spivack.

In this exhibition sculptural form annotates the path, symbolized and inspired by many winding and meandering rivers. Both the positive and the negative shapes tell a story of time, transition, and process. Layers that reveal the truth and context; we inherently create by externalization. Represented by circular, wall-hanging sculptures of river abstractions, layered assemblage, and textures, these concepts find form in the metaphors of material.

Water is vital for life, and vital to our region. Sacramento was built out of the flood plains, in the heart of the valley. This exhibition features artworks that represent the rich history of our region through the narrative of water use and flooding. These works highlight the vital choices that lie ahead and the challenges that face us as we decide the future of water in our region.

The artist uses translucent acrylic and resin to extend the experience of water as a light shimmer on the gallery wall. Abstract representations of the internal landscape, intense feelings expressed through sentimental deconstructed forms, inspired by local ecosystems of earth, soil, and water.

An award-winning multidisciplinary artist, de Boer received her B.F.A. in Sculpture and Philosophy from California State University- Sacramento and an A.A. in Visual Arts from Johnson County Community College. She has been included in dozens of group shows across Northern California to the Midwest, and received features from ABC10, KCRA, Solving Sacramento, SNR, State Hornet, the Sacramento Bee, and Parabola Magazine. With a diverse background as a business owner, a non-profit founder of Community Shop Class, an arts administrator for organizations like City of Sacramento and Friends of Sacramento Arts, and many years in fabrication and skilled trades, de Boer has expanded the boundaries of artists’ role and challenged the function of living artists through her cross-sector work and collaborations.

Ember de Boer will be hosting a virtual Artist Talk on Thursday, March 5 at 6:00pm. For more information, please visit https://yoloarts.org/gallery-625/
