I make figurative ceramic sculptures that have a whimsical immediacy to them with which people can easily connect. When I make my sculptures, I think about how they might reach out to the viewer, how they will draw someone in to make them feel happy, content, or peaceful, and perhaps give them the urge to smile back. When I create the pieces, I sculpt the head out of clay while holding it in my hands, in order to better see “who” it will become.
